"A weed is a plant whose uses are yet to be appreciated."

Secret Medicines from Your Garden is a fantastic compilation of useful information put together by Ellen Evert Hopman. Ms. Hopman has been teaching herbalism since 1983. Her book weaves folklore, ancient wisdom, and modern plant research. The book looks at common weeds, flowers, trees, and ornamental plants for food, medicine spiritual growth, and magical rituals.

Secret Medicines from Your Garden is a great source of reference. Inside, you will find plant properties, universal indications, and contraindications for use. You can read about honey and bee medicine, deer medicine, elk medicine, and other shamanic plant spirit and animal spirit medicines as well as herbal astrology.

Ms. Hopman also provides recipes and instructions for making food and medicine along with tinctures, teas, and other beneficial things using plants and herbs from your garden. The book talks about herbal lore drawing on Native American, Celtic, and Egyptian practices.

The book is a perfect-bound 338 page paperback book.

In addition to everything above, Ms.Hopman includes what plants to plant to make sure you have flowers, berries, leaves, and roots through every season, all year long. As a gardener, I find this book as one of my greatest gardening tools. I highly recommend it for those that are interested in using plants for healing, spirituality, and magic. It’s a true gem!
